JESLA is the Journal of the European Second Language Association (EUROSLA). It publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed open-access articles in the field of second language research. Its aim is to promote the understanding of second language learning and use, and to stimulate the debate on the bilingual and multilingual individual and society. JESLA publishes one continuous issue per year, comprising the best research from the EUROSLA community.

The scope of the journal covers fundamental and applied issues in second language learning, in children, adolescents and adults; second / bilingual language use and processing, language representation, bilingual cognition, as well as second language assessment and education. JESLA welcomes empirical, theoretical and methodological research papers, including meta-analyses. No specific theories or approaches are given preference.

The readership includes second language researchers from the fields of linguistics, psychology, sociology, education, as well as related sub-disciplines and interdisciplinary areas. All articles in the journal undergo rigorous peer review based on initial editor screening and refereeing by at least two anonymous reviewers.
